What does an
Assistance Dog do?
Assistance
Dogs are versatile, reliable assistants for people with disabilities. No longer
limited to guiding people with visual impairments, Assistance Dogs perform a
wide variety of tasks suitable for an equally wide assortment of limitations.
Assistance
Dogs aid people with disabilities in their every day life. They do this with
actions such as alerting to an oncoming seizure, retrieving dropped items,
opening and closing doors, turning lights on and off, fetching out of reach
objects, waking a person with sleep apnea, getting help, calming and focusing a
person with anxiety, aiding with the movement of paralysed limbs, and so much
more. They can be trained to perform acts of assistance specifically for the
individual for whom they work.
